The prospect of leaving college and starting a real career is simultaneously exhilirating and terrifying. Granted, I still have one more academic year before I should really begin worrying, but I think about it a lot anyways. Will my major be directly applicabIe to my job? How much will my internship experience pay off when I start working full-time? Since it's impossible for me to prognosticate my career path, I take solace in hearing other people's stories.

Whether it's a recent college graduate or a thirty-year veteran, the story of how you got your job is always interesting. How does someone with a college degree in history become a medical doctor? How does a circus performer go from the trapeze to the classroom? Hearing someone recount their career path makes the entire process seem exciting and kind of fun, rather than scary and painful. Next time you're at your internship or job ask your boss how he or she got their start. It could prove to be a very eye opening conversation.
